Ready to experience Lake Erie's Western Basin at its absolute best? Our perch charter trips out of Monroe put you right in the heart of some of the most productive yellow perch fishing waters in the Great Lakes. Captain Aaron and his crew know these waters like the back of their hand, and they're committed to making sure you leave with a cooler full of fish and stories that'll last a lifetime. Whether you're a seasoned angler or bringing the family for their first real fishing adventure, this charter delivers the kind of action that keeps folks coming back season after season.
This isn't your typical day of casting from shore and hoping for the best. We're talking about a full-service charter experience where everything's handled for you from the moment you step on the dock. Your trip includes all the rods, reels, and bait you'll need, so you can focus on what matters most – catching fish. The Western Basin is famous for its massive schools of yellow perch, and our local knowledge puts us right where they're feeding. You'll want to bring a Michigan fishing license as a given, but depending on where the fish are running that day, we might chase them into Ohio waters, so an Ohio license could come in handy too. Pack a soft cooler with your favorite snacks and drinks, plus a hard cooler for your catch. Fish cleaning services are available depending on timing and where we end up, but either way, you're going home with fresh fillets.
Perch fishing in the Western Basin is all about reading the water and staying mobile. We use light tackle setups that let you feel every nibble and fight, paired with proven rigs that the perch just can't resist. Our approach combines traditional perch spreaders with modern electronics to locate schools and stay on the bite. The boat's equipped with quality rods and reels suited for Lake Erie's conditions, and we keep plenty of fresh bait on hand. Captain Aaron and his son work as a team to keep everyone fishing – they'll help you land fish, get hooks rebaited, and make sure there's always a rod in your hands. When the perch bite slows down, don't be surprised if we make a move to target some bonus species. The Western Basin holds plenty of surprises, and walleye often cruise the same areas where we're working the perch schools.
"Our family had a great day on the lake with Captain Aaron and his son. He was set up and ready to go at the dock as planned. He was friendly, courteous and committed to making sure we had a great fishing experience. He put us on yellow perch in little to no time and the family was pulling perch steadily. He and his son worked quickly to assist with taking the fish off and having another pole ready to go. It didn't take us long to fill a large cooler. So much fun! To finish up the charter, he took us to a honey hole for some catfishing. Our kids had so much fun reeling in 4 and 5 lb.cats. It was a great day. Captain Aaron goes above and beyond to ensure that his customers have the best charter experience possible. We will most definitely look to book with Captain Aaron again in the future." - Tom
American Yellow Perch are the bread and butter of Lake Erie's Western Basin, and for good reason. These scrappy fish travel in massive schools that can provide non-stop action when you find them. Yellow perch typically run 8 to 12 inches in these waters, with some real jumbo specimens pushing 13 inches or better. They're most active during the cooler months of fall through early spring, but summer fishing can be outstanding when you know where to look. What makes perch so popular isn't just the consistent action – they're also some of the best eating fish in freshwater. The firm, flaky meat is perfect for the frying pan, and kids love the manageable size and steady bite. Perch feed heavily on small minnows, insects, and crustaceans, which is why they respond so well to our proven bait presentations.
Walleye add an extra element of excitement to these Western Basin trips. Known as the "golden ghost" of the Great Lakes, walleye are prized both for their fighting ability and their incredible table fare. Lake Erie walleye average 2 to 4 pounds, but don't be shocked if something in the 6 to 8-pound range grabs your bait. These fish are most active during low-light periods – early morning, late evening, and overcast days – but they'll feed throughout the day when conditions are right. Walleye have excellent vision and can be particular about presentation, which is why having an experienced captain makes all the difference. They're ambush predators that cruise drop-offs and structure, often mixing with the perch schools we're targeting. Landing a nice walleye while perch fishing is like getting a bonus on top of an already great day.
Lake Erie's Western Basin delivers some of the most consistent and action-packed fishing in the Great Lakes region, and our perch charter trips showcase exactly why this area has earned its reputation. With Captain Aaron's local expertise, quality equipment, and commitment to putting you on fish, you're set up for success from the moment you leave the dock. The combination of yellow perch action with the potential for walleye and other bonus species creates the kind of diverse fishing experience that appeals to everyone from first-timers to seasoned pros. Don't wait – the best dates fill up quickly, especially during peak season when the fish are really cooperating.

Yellow perch are Lake Erie's bread and butter fish - golden beauties with dark vertical stripes that typically run 7-10 inches and about a pound. You'll find schools of 50+ fish hanging around structure like docks, weed beds, and rocky areas in 15-25 feet of water. Spring through fall are prime time, but they bite year-round when you find them. What makes perch special? They're scrappy fighters for their size and absolutely fantastic eating - sweet, flaky white meat that's hard to beat. The key to consistent success is finding one fish means finding the school. Once you locate them, work the area thoroughly with small jigs tipped with minnows or worms. These fish travel in groups, so when you hook one, keep your line in the same spot.

Walleye are the gold standard of Lake Erie fishing - sleek predators with marble eyes that typically run 2-4 pounds, though 6+ pounders show up regularly. They love rocky reefs, drop-offs, and weed edges in 15-35 feet of water during the day, moving shallow at dusk to feed. Prime time is spring through fall, especially low-light periods when their excellent night vision gives them an edge. Anglers love them for two reasons: they're challenging to catch and absolutely delicious - mild, flaky white meat that's considered the best eating fish in the lake. The secret to consistent walleye success is trolling crawler harnesses or casting jigs with live bait right along the bottom. Keep your presentation slow and subtle - walleye can be finicky biters.
